Zamir White might miss season after tearing ACL

Zamir White,  the Georgia freshman running back  tore the ACL in his left knee.  He was trying to cover a punt in a scrimmage at the Sanford Stadium on Saturday.  The Georgia’s coaches now fear that he might have to miss the 2018 season because of the injury. Obviously the injury seems very serious and would take time to get healed completely. This would be a big loss for Georgia as Zamir White is one of their key players. Missing out on injury would be a big blow to the team and to him personally.

Kirby Smart, Bulldogs coach had confirmed that White was injured on a non-contact play during the scrimmage.  He said that White will be having an MRI on his left knee.

Smart told reporters that the severity of the injury is still not known.

It is interesting to know that White who is the No. 1 running back and No. 15 player overall in the 2018 ESPN 300 had tore the ACL in his right knee as well in November last year. He was then playing in the state playoffs at Laurinburg (NC) Scotland High School. Then  later in January he enrolled at Georgia  and was limited in spring practice while he was recovering from the injury. In the preseason practices, he was also seen wearing a brace on his right knee.

The Bulldogs have been looking to replace the departed stars Sony Michel and Nick Chubb . They had combined to run for 8,407 yards from 2014-17. They had broken the FBS record for career rushing yards by a pair of running back teammates.

In the previous season, Chubb and Michel had combined to run for a whopping 2,572 yards with 31 touchdowns. This had helped the Bulldogs to a 13-2 record, their first SEC title since 2005. It also helped them to a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Sophomore D’Andre Swift has been the team’s top returning rusher. He ran for 618 yards with three touchdowns in 2017. The Juniors Brian Herrien (265 yards with one touchdown) and Elijah Holyfield (293 yards with two touchdowns) are also back. The standout in this preseason practice has been Freshman James Cook, the younger brother of former Florida State star Dalvin Cook.

The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 4 in the preseason coaches poll. They would open their season against FCS foe Austin Peay on the 1st of September. Despite the injury to White, they will be hoping for a good season.
